Wilderness Walk: Game Day Edition

The Wild have one road win down, one to go.

Even Dany Heatley isn't as bad as the Oilers!

The Minnesota Wild defeated Edmonton last night 3-0. Against the hapless Oilers, Darcy Kuemper got a shutout, Stephane Veillieux of all people scored a goal, and Mikael Granlund and Dany Heatley kept their hot streaks going, despite the Olympic Break.

Tonight, the Wild face Vancouver, a bubble team that will be fighting for their playoff lives, but the bigger focus around the league is going to be the Trade Deadline, and there are some big names floating around. Last year, it was Jarome Iginla, but Iginla had clearly fallen from the peak of his powers. This season? The big names are Martin St. Louis, Ryan Callahan, and now Ryan Kesler has entered the deadline fray with a trade demand of his own. Might the distraction be too much for the Canucks to handle? We will find out tonight.

Moving the discussion back to the playoff race, the Wild's win puts them at 71 points, and they maintain a strong lead in the Wild card, 5 points ahead of Dallas, and 6 points ahead of the second Wild Card spot.

Tonight's game is actually pretty big, in terms of playoff odds. A regulation win or loss will increase or decrease the Wild's playoff odds, respectively, by 7.5%. Vancouver toppled the always-tough St. Louis Blues in their first game after the Olympic Break, so you know they'll be hungry and desperate. The question is, will the Wild be able to match that intensity in the second game of a back-to-back.

On to the Walk.

After stroke, Kris Letang unsure when he’ll return to Penguins | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports- The fact that he can talk about potentially coming back this year is good news. Strokes aren't anything to mess with.

Time can heal wounds in Martin St. Louis trade request drama | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports- The Lightning had better hope so.

Martin St. Louis’ trade request leaves him looking spiteful and unreasonable | Backhand Shelf | Blogs | I can agree with this. The fact that he's going about his Team Canada rejection in this way makes it seem like he would rather make the team because he's Yzerman's guy than make it because of his merit. I can understand the hurt feelings, but yes, this seems petty.

Has Ryan Kesler played his last game as a Vancouver Canuck? | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports- For the sake of the Wild, I hope so. I'm a pretty big Kesler fan, and the only reason I don't want to see him in a Wild uniform is I know that he'll command a high price.

Does Kesler Want Out Of Vancouver Or Not? - Nucks Misconduct- Kesler is denying his trade demand, but of course, that's what you'd want to say if you were going to get traded, but it's also what you'd want to say if you didn't, and... my head hurts now.

Report: Teams extending offers for Kesler, but asking price is high | ProHockeyTalk- A high pick, a roster player, and a prospect. So... that'd be a first, Dumba, and Coyle for the asking price? Would you trade anything for Kesler, Wilderness? As much as I like him, his price and injury history scare me.
