Wilderness Walk: Ex-Islanders' Revenge Edition

Matt Moulson, Jared Spurgeon, and Nino Niederreiter triumphed over their woeful former team.

Justin Fontaine returned from a 5-game absence to score a goal and assist on the second line.

While the Islanders were hardly a formidable opponent, the Wild were able to take care of business, and then some.

The Wild's offense had been sputtering for some time, and failed to get an immediate jolt upon the acquisition of Matt Moulson. They had failed to score 4 goals in every game since the end of January. This ended once they ran into the failure pile that is the New York Islanders, and the Wild's offense broke out for a season-high 6 goals, en route to a 6-0 shutout.

These are a fairly big two points, especially after spending the last two weeks blowing, by my estimation, 5 points in losses to Dallas, St. Louis, Edmonton (yuck), and Columbus. This extends the Wild's lead on the Wild Card to 5 points ahead of Phoenix, and 7 points ahead of Dallas. With 13 games remaining on the Wild's schedule, these points are very much needed to ensure the Wild make the playoffs.

On to the Walk.
