Wilderness Walk: Watching the Kids Edition

A lot of young player/prospect talk today.

Ignore Mat Dumba at your own peril.
Ignore Mat Dumba at your own peril.

Part of the price that you pay when you graduate players like Jonas Brodin, Mikael Granlund, Marco Scandella, Charlie Coyle, and Nino Niederreiter into real, tangible, been-there-done-that NHL players is that you fall in the prospect rankings. Two weeks ago, Corey Pronman of ESPN ranked the Minnesota Wild's prospects 24th in the league, mostly citing their lack of scoring forwards, seeing the Wild as not yet having replaced Granlund, Coyle, and Nino.

That doesn't necessarily mean there's nothing to watch other than the Minnesota Wild. The Iowa Wild are going to feature top prospects in Mathew Dumba, Gustav Olofsson, and possibly Jason Zucker. In addition to those players, Wild fans will also be able to follow a cast of players that may include Zack Phillips, Jordan Schroeder, Michael Keränen, Brett Bulmer, Raphael Bussieres, Zach Mitchell, Brady Brassart, Johan Gustafsson, and Guillaume Gelinas.

Why mention all of this? Because the Iowa Wild isn't all that far of a trip for Minnesota Wild fans. And with the Iowa Wild's schedule being released yesterday, you can now plan a day trip to see some of these prospects in action.

With some free (for now!) advertising for the Iowa Wild out of the way, I want to mention that the announcement we had yesterday will actually be announced in an hour. So, with that in mind, let's get on to the Walk.
