The beginning of the All-Star break has left Minnesota Wild fandom with mixed emotions as the extended layoff begins. Some find themselves anxious to get on with the season, with hopes of the playoffs dancing through their heads. Some have cashed in their chips and have visions of McEichel floating through their mind. Others still are just happy to have a break after a roller coaster of emotions through the first 46 games. Whichever direction you are cheering for the Wild to head, they have their work cut out for them. The Wild sit 7 points out of a Wild Card spot, and 13 points ahead of lowly Buffalo, who are destined for McDavid to join the squad (and 11 ahead of Edmonton, who will likely turn Eichel into a bust. See: Hall, Taylor)
The State of Hockey also scored a long-anticipated win today with the announcement of a Stadium Series game, finally bringing an outdoor NHL game to the Twin Cities. We haven't yet been told if the game will be at TCF Bank Stadium or Target Field, but the likely opponent is none other than our perennial enemy, the Chicago Blackhawks. This seems to be a fitting team for the event as the rivalry between the teams continues to smolder after two years of the Blackhawks sending the Wild home without Lord Stanley's Cup. The Winter Classic will have to wait at least one more year to call Minnesota home, and you can bet that Craig Leipold will continue to woo commissioner Gary Bettman into bringing the Classic to the State of Hockey.
The Walk starts with a song that describes my feelings about the All-Star Break (but doesn't begin to illustrate those awful jerseys):
