Wilderness Walk: Game Day Edition

New, comments

Tonight, your Minnesota Wild faceoff against the Edmonton Oilers, but first we walk.

Chris LaFrance-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning Wilderness! Or if this is finding you later in the day, good afternoon or good evening. Tonight your Minnesota Wild will be in action against the Edmonton Oilers way up north of The Wall. Coming off an emotion overtime victory against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night the Wild look to stay hot against one of the perennial bottom feeders of the league. Yet don't count the Oilers out. It is never a good idea to look past an opponent in today's NHL.

A win tonight will bring the Wild back to within 1 point of the 8th seed in the West after the San Jose Sharks "rare" win last night. The Calgary Flames (68 points) are also in action tonight hosting the Anaheim Ducks as they try to put a little breathing room between them and the Sharks and the Vancouver Canucks (69 points) will be in New Jersey playing the Devils with hopes of at least maintaining their 1 point lead over the Flames in the Pacific. It's a hot mess in the West, which we should be used to by now. A look at the current standing will help wrap your brain around exactly what is going on.

With 25 games left to play, we still have over a quarter of the season left to punch our ticket into the playoffs. Getting a ticket to the dance is never going to be easy in the ultra competitive Western Conference. If the Wild want to maintain any hope of keeping their season alive they need to be winning games against teams like the Oilers.

Earlier this week, Chris brought us that amazing version of Thunderstruck by AC/DC as performed by Luca Stricagnoli. That guy is just super amazing at his craft, and nearly makes me want to put down the guitar myself (good thing I just got a drum set) because it almost seems pointless to try after seeing him. Today I've got a pair of amazing musicians with their own version of Thunderstruck. Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser are 2 classically trained cellists from Croatia, and together they are 2CELLOS.

Welp, at least we're in the top half of the league in ROW... with the only teams we're "chasing" right now ahead of us in ROW is the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks, but at least we got a couple games in hand against the Sharks.
