With the Calgary Flames beating New Jersey in regulation, they have jumped the Wild in the standings and pushed the Wild back into 9th place. The Flames now have 70 points to the Wild's 69, but the Wild have a game in hand with 22 to go.
Tonight the Wild find themselves going into the league's most dangerous arena for visitors for a Central Division showdown with the Nashville Predators. The Preds have been on a hot streak of their own since the all-star break and are 8-1-1 in their last 10. The Wild are 0-1-1 vs The Predators this season and remain the only team to hang 5 goals on Pekka Rinne. The Wild will be looking to get to him early, but Rinne no doubt will be looking for revenge for the Wild's big night against him. Good goaltending = Wins in today's NHL, and both of these teams exemplify what effect it truly has.
The trade winds picked up today with 5 days remaining until the deadline. Teams near the Wild in the standings made some moves to get better as the Kings acquired Andrej Sekera on D and Winnipeg acquired LW Jiri Tlusty for much steeper prices than the Wild paid for Bergenheim and Dubnyk. Chuck Fletcher is getting rave reviews for the Bergenheim pickup.
The Wild will be excited to see what they are getting from a motivated pending UFA that has a track record of success in the playoffs. Bergenheim will likely find himself inserted in the lineup on the 4th line with either Stephane Veilleux or Erik Haula coming out of the lineup. Haula was resposible for the Pouliot GWG on Tuesday night and saw only 6:38 of total ice time and just 1 shift in the third.
Reminder: Those are not "DUUUUUUUB" chants you are hearing, Nashville fans are riding "SUUUUUUUUTER"
