Wilderness Walk: Gone Streaking Edition

New, comments

The Wild dominated all phases of the game and had great games by too many guys to mention. They were even able to hold on to what has become a dreaded 3-goal lead this season, to defeat their nemesis. A shutout for Dubnyk, no points for Bickell and 2 points for the Kaptain

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Well, if anyone hadn't been paying attention to the Wild since the All-Star Break, they certainly have to now.  The Wild dominated every phase of the game against the Blackhawks (except for their weak PP) and beat the Blackhawks into submission, sending a raucous Excel Energy Center crowd into a frenzy throughout the game.  The best part was watching the Wild confidently play their brand of hockey and asserting it for a full 60 minutes against a key opponent they have struggled against in their own building.  It was the Wild's best statement win of the season.

This game featured outstanding performances from top to bottom, but there were individual performances that really stood out. Devan  Dubnyk earned the shutout. Jason Zucker, again, scored on the topshelf backhand.  Mikko Koivu played as well as #AngryMikko, and never even got angry.  And I can't say enough about Marco Scandella, who not only tied the team record for shots on goal by a defensemen (8, Brent Burns) but was once again an absolute beast on the blue line and erased Patrick Kane from relevance in this game.

For those looking at the standings, the Wild win combined with a Kings loss brought the teams even at 54 points.  A Dallas and Colorado tie score at the end of regulation led to both teams receiving one point and the Avalanche receiving two with a shootout win.  Combined with a late tilt between Winnipeg and Vancouver resulting in an OT win for the Canucks, the Wild Card race is amazingly tight with 5 teams within 5 points of the second spot and 6 within 7 points.  The Wild get their chance to catch the Avalanche on Saturday at the X.

We Walk today, as the Wild did last night, in the shoes of Daniel Larusso:

Seemed befitting of last nights action.
