Wilderness Walk: Layover Edition

New, comments

A day full day of rest to recover from one back-to-back and prepare for another. Home has been a challenge for the Wild of late, and the next two games are crucial to re-establishing the team's game at the X.

After stealing a game in Toronto only to suffer the Isles' incredible barrage on Long Island, no player deserved this full day off more than Devan Dubnyk.  He has been consistently sensational, has developed a pattern to demonstrate promise of future success.  Many writers have run out of superlatives to use, but all praise is deserved and enough could not be said for his performance in Minnesota.  These days are vital and Dubnyk has yet to show signs of fatigue.  The team has also brought its game around in front of him, and has been that team that always finds a way to win, even if they weren't on top of their game.

The next two games continue to carry the weight of the world as the Wild have an opportunity to drive even more space and other potential wildcard hopefuls Calgary and Los Angeles.  The Wild have been sleepy at home and not asserting themselves early enough in the game, but will look to change that with the chance to bury their nearby adversaries.  The Wild till take back to the ice to sharpen their game in practice tomorrow before the consecutive home games.

Teams around the Wild also had a rough night with Chicago falling to Philadelphia, Colorado losing to Edmonton, and Dallas closing out Calgary in OT.  The Wild are just 3 points back of 3rd place, though Chicago has a game in hand.  They remain 5 points over the playoff bubble with 8 to go.
