Wilderness Walk: Impeaching the Senators

The Wild get one day of rest before their first of 4 sets of back-to-back games this month on Thursday at Washington and Friday at Carolina. Including today, the Wild play 4 games in 4 cities over the next 6 days.

It took an extra frame plus a skills competition, but the Wild continued their torrid push toward the playoffs by defeating the Ottawa Senators and ending their 5-game winning streak.  Matt Dumba had his first multi-goal game and Charlie Coyle scored the winning shootout goal.  But those performances may have been less noticed due to  the play of the three newest members of the Wild as each of them made their presence felt in the lineup.  We did see some line juggling toward the second half of the game as the new players try to build chemistry that will develop with time.

The Wild now sit within 1 point of the idle Jets with a game in hand, and hold a 3 point cushion over the Kings who also won tonight against Edmonton.  The Wild have Wednesday off, but there will be plenty to talk about reflecting on the new players' performance and planning ahead for the next three road games culminating in a rematch with the recently fined Colorado Avalanche.  That game has the makings of being a drama-filled grudge match, and will also be a tough game on short rest for the Wild.

If you haven't yet listened to our newest Hockey Wilderness Podcast, Trade Deadline and Avs Asshattery, please do so! There's tons of talk about the new Trade Deadline Acquisitions, Sean Bergenheim, the Colorado Avalanches late-game antics, and a lot of young players, including last night's heroes, Matt Dumba and Charlie Coyle.

Now we Walk.
