Wilderness Walk: Draft Day Fallout Edition

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

If you all haven't heard the NHL Draft took place last night. In a complete surprise the Minnesota Wild selected Joel Eriksson Ek. Why was it such a surprise? Simply because the Wild don't usually draft two-way players that play a safe and competent game. With all the high-upside draft picks the Wild have used lately I think it was a nice change of pace to go with a safe pick to help balance out all the previous risks we've taken under the Chuck Fletcher era.

On top of his superb play in his own zone Eriksson Ek also can light up the lamp. He scored 4 goals and 2 assists in 34 games playing the Sweden's men league. Mark on the calendar Wild fans--in 3 to 4 years this guy is going to be a force to reckon with in our bottom 6.

Thank god we didn't screw up this draft by taking one of Nick Merkley or Travis Konecny or Anthony Beauvillier (the guy I actually really really wanted the Wild to pick) because they put up too many points in the Canadian Junior Leagues. We just don't need that type of scoring talent on this team right now.

Avs acquired the rights to Soderberg by giving the Bruins a 6th-round draft pick and then went and overpaid him to the tune of about $4.75 million a year. #whynotus

Sabres trade 1st-round pick to Senators for goalie Lehner - Yahoo Sports
Sabres have a new goalie and in return the Senators selected Colin White. Hey, at least we DIDN'T draft White, right?

Thanks Boston. Now we have to play against this dick even more.

Sabres stay busy, acquire Ryan O'Reilly from Avs in five player deal | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports
We got Mike Reilly and the Sabres got Ryan O'Reilly. The Avs actually got a pretty decent return for O'Reilly considering I don't think they had a chance to extend him.
