Wilderness Walk: Practice and Rumors Edition

New, comments

Rumors continue to swirl around your Minnesota Wild as the team finally gets back to practice after a game-heavy schedule that has prevented it.

Today the Wild can find some solace in the fact that they have some time together to practice.  The coach and players have been lamenting the lack of practice amidst a stretch of 9 games in 15 days (remember all those 3 & 4 day breaks early on?).  With the CBA-mandatory days off and back-to-backs involved, it has certainly limited the availability of practice time, so the Wild need to use this practice to get back to some basics and give their game a shot in the arm.  Two big games coming up on back-to-back nights against Central Division opponents Winnipeg and at Nashville.  These are big games for the Wild, and they'll be set to face a Nashville team showing off their shiny new 1C, Ryan Johansen.  The Wild will mercifully have 3 days after the Nashville game to regroup before a dreaded West Coast late-game trip to Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose.  Welcome to the grinder.

News from Russo has amped up the trade speculation as he revealed the Wild absolutely dangled Jonas Brodin and an unnamed forward for Ryan Johansen and are now likely dangling Matt Dumba to Tampa Bay for Jonathon Drouin.  Drouin is smaller than the Wild's most obvious trade targets and isn't a proven center in the NHL.  He played well there in junior, but is currently spending time at left wing in the AHL.  He does have an offensive upside that the Wild currently don't have and could provide a spark, but of course the price is high and there are a lot of other suitors for Drouin.  Fletcher definitely seems to be getting in the mix for some high-profile moves, which has not been common.
