Wilderness Walk: Zach Is Back

New, comments

The Alternate Captain stepped up in the absence of the Kaptain, and put the team on his back to earn 2 points while showing resolve.

Russell LaBounty-USA TODAY Sports

First things first, let's get this out of the way:

Mikko Koivu went hard into the boards less than 90 seconds into the game with collision points on the back of his head and down his back.  His status was not known until after the game, but flying home with the team is a good sign for the team and its Kaptain.  Should he miss any time, the hope is that it will be a short absence and the Wild have Tyler Graovac and Grayson Downing both playing well in Iowa and Charlie Coyle available to play the pivot.

Perhaps Zach Parise was playing coy when he told the press today that he felt limited in his knee brace and preferred not to wear it, but was forced to, but he carried the offense for the Wild striking three times for his second hat trick of the season.  Parise had looked off since returning from a sprained MCL which eventually was re-aggravated and cause him to miss more time.  But he certainly found an answer tonight, in a game where he was asked to fill a lot of extra and important minutes and a close game with the absence of Koivu.  We can only hope this leads to more continued success from the hometown hero and that he's truly broken out of his funk.

Here's an interesting tidbit from TSN's Power Rankings:

Minnesota Wild

20-11-7 This Week: 11 Last Week: 7

TEAM STATS

GPG 2.66 - GAPG 2.34 - S.A. CORSI% 49.2% - PP% 18.6% PK% 78.7%
He can still score some, but LW Thomas Vanek isn't doing the Wild's possession game any favours. Over the past couple of seasons, he ranks in the bottom 10 in relative possession among forwards that have played more than 1000 five-on-five minutes, and none of the others have nearly the offensive zone tilt that Vanek has received.

Key Injuries: None.

Today's Walk music is the first of a 2 part series.  Today, a fresh new jam and tomorrow an even better remix of said jam.  Enjoy, Wilderness.  On to the Walk.
