Wilderness Walk: O - Touché Edition

The Wild fall to 0-2 in the series. Get it? It’s a joke.

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-St. Louis Blues at Minnesota Wild
The moment the state of hockey’s heart sank.
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Oh boy, what have we gotten ourselves into here folks? Things are not looking terribly awesome for our small tribe of warriors now is it? Hope for the weary? I don’t know, it’s looking tough. The Blues are playing the perfect brand of hockey against the Wild right now. It’s not just Jake Allen standing on his head.

So, good morning, I guess. Chris took the day off so you all get to deal with my little ray of happy ray of sunshine today.

What do you need to beat the Wild, besides insane goaltending? You need to slow them down. The Blues are practicing that formula to near perfection right now. Did you see that last Jason Zucker breakaway? Of course you didn’t. The Blues bottled that up, pushed it to the outside, and watched as a deft backhander drifts harmlessly across the slot.

Have the Wild had their moments? Absolutely. That’s where the goaltending comes in. When you’re unable to slow down the machine you pack it in tight and let Allen cover the gaps. Seems to be a formula for winning being executed by a savvy veteran coach then, huh?

Oh, touché...

Today’s musical break is a mellow little number off the new album from The Shins. The album is called Heartworms and the song is a little number by the name of Mildenhall. This whole album is pretty great, and this video is oddly soothing.
