Late in the 2nd period play was stopped as Tyler Myers laid still and motionless near the door to the Jets’ bench in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup First Round. The NBC/USA Network broadcast didn’t show a great angle of the play, but what we did see was that Wild forward Marcus Foligno engaged Myers near the blue line and Myers went down, needing help to get back up.
What we saw was Foligno go down to block a shot, then attempt to get back up to finish his check. What we didn’t see was contact to the head. What we didn’t see was angle that was released much later in GIF form that shows Foligno making contact with the knee of Myers as Foligno struggles to gain his balance.

After what almost looks like a punch to the right knee, Myers’ knee wobbles as the foot makes contact with the lower part of the boards. Foligno was not penalized on the play, and went on to score a goal later in the period as part of a 6-2 win for Minnesota over the Jets.
Myers, no matter how much time he misses, whether it be just the remainder of Game 3, or the series and beyond, it’s a gigantic loss for the Jets on their blue line. Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice did not have an update on Myers’s status.
