The 2019 NHL Entry Draft will be underway in Vancouver, starting tonight with the first round, where the Minnesota Wild are selecting at 12th overall.
If General Manager Paul Fenton has done something right in an otherwise disappointing season, it’s the stock of draft picks he’ll have available. The Wild have a pick in every round, with two sixth-round selections. The Wild front office will either have a healthy crop of young prospects, or leverage in a trade with extra picks.
Also of note this weekend is the status of Jason Zucker, who has been rumored to be on the trade block for months. This weekend may see him in a new home.

The Wild traded their original fourth-round pick back in 2017, as part of the trade that saw them acquire Martin Hanzal and Ryan White from the Arizona Coyotes. This pick was traded four more times, eventually acquired by the Florida Panthers, along with Derick Brassard and Riley Sheahan in February this year. They also sent their original fifth-round pick to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Brad Hunt, gaining Vegas’ sixth-round selection, as well.
The fourth-round pick originally belonging to the New York Rangers was sent to Minnesota via the Boston Bruins as part of the Charlie Coyle trade. They acquired the Washington Capitals’ fifth-round pick by way of the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Mike Reilly.
