There will be more youngsters suiting up for the Iowa Wild soon. After Matt Boldy signed his entry-level contract and has performed extremely well in his first two games, he will now be joined by Nick Swaney.

Swaney, 23, has signed his entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild and the one-year contract will officially begin next season. But for now, he will report to Iowa on an amateur try-out for the remainder of the season.

The forward coming out of the University of Minnesota-Duluth has seen a steady rise of production through his four years of college hockey. A seventh-round selection of the 2017 NHL Draft, Swaney has capped off his collegiate career with a total of 46 goals and 101 points scored through 134 games.

Beyond Boldy and now Swaney, the AHL Wild boast some of Minnesota’s top prospects coming through the pipeline, like defenseman Calen Addison and forward Connor Dewar.

This steady rise of youth has been a recent trend for this organization that hopes to re-tool on the fly and accrue more young players as they hope to keep on competing for the playoffs.

Iowa play three games next week, including a mid-week matchup against the division-worst Rockford Ice Hogs. We’ll see when Swaney is able to make his debut, but getting in some reps before the regular season closes is something to look out for in the coming weeks.
